Players at the end of the world.

“Players at the end of the world” is a visual research on the figures of players, throughout the appropriation from history of art, close or far reality, fantasy; it is a collection.

Reality has been the first inspiration: after lockdown, in the city, players were the first going out from homes to come back being toghether in the play, like an innate force bringing them in the gathering, always presents, in bars, parks, with or without table they will keep playing.

After that I’ve been taken by Cezanne, who used to research on these figures, so concentrated to be still as a still life. Then I started to collect other players from others paintings, russian avant-garde, a caravaggesque…then I understood that I could find the soldiers playing at the base of every crucifixion, long lineage:

Sculptures from Sacro Monte in Varallo Sesia, Tintoretto, Guttuso, centuries of interpretations to draw on.

Internet is another shape of our reality, there I started to find players in refugee camps, from instagram account of Moria; in the documentary “For Sama”, I found a player among the rubble of Aleppo.

I kept the same size (50 cm x 70 cm) as optical device, while I felt free to experiment with techniques.
